I always feel a little spark of joy when I see your column (or whatever we call a substack) in my email. It is something I look forward to reading later when I have a minute to relax. So I appreciate that you put this out, even though you have a lot going on.
Hi Hilary, check out Goodr sunglasses for your kids! They are well priced and come in lots of fun colors. Available online and at a cool store on Abbot Kinney!
California expat in London. It's all about layers. Next week, it's looking like we might hit low 60s in the day. But at night, it's still in the 40s and quite damp. Also, I find it can get stuffy inside some buildings -- there's not always great ventilation. So if you wear lighter layers and a warmer coat, that should work fine for all the temperature shifts. (Also, if you have time, check out Oma in Borough Market for an amazing meal.)
I was just in London a few weeks ago and it looks a touch warmer than when I was there. However I did a bunch of cashmere sweaters + drapey trench (theory admiral crepe to be exact) and I was great. If you are going to be out in the morning I might pack a pair of thin gloves just because it was a little chilly in the morning.
This might be the most relatable roundup I’ve ever read—“zoinked” perfectly sums up this week for me too. Thank you for giving us something joyful and practical (and extremely tempting) even while juggling Mercury Retrograde chaos and a million spinning plates. The lipstick recs are going straight into my Sephora cart (Pomme d’Amour? Say less), and I’m now irrationally obsessed with the idea of mushroom cardigans. Also deeply appreciate the sunglasses breakdown—those American Optical pilot shades have officially made my “husband birthday gift” shortlist.
PS: Please bring back a London trip recap! I need to know what worked, what didn’t, and what was secretly genius.
I’m a huge fan of Violette_Fr. I’m finishing up my 3rd of BoumBoum milk. And love her Bisou Balms. And her Yeux paints are gorgeous if a little challenging to apply. She makes it look easy to apply. It’s great she’s in Sephora. But I do love the postcards and shipping paper that comes in the packages. I reuse them all of the time.
I generally don’t go to London without a waterproof/hooded coat or an umbrella. In spring they’re definitely needed but your hotel may be able to loan you their big fancy golf umbrellas.
They are very princess-y, but I love my flower printed rain sisters trench for weird spring/fall showers.
Bookmarked these lipsticks for the Sephora insiders sale. 💄
They're truly perfect
Oh, good idea!

Thank you so much for this kind comment, Nancy! I love writing it, even when things are hectic.
London is cloudy! Trench and a thin knit and you’ll be fine. Not quite warm spring just yet x
Thanks so much!
sunglasses rec: jimmy fairly! Check out the styles IRL when you’re in Europe xx
I learned about Jimmy from the WWWUK team, but haven't ever seen in person, and this is a good reminder to do so! Merci!

I love Goodr shades, and you can now get some styles with prescription lenses. 🕶️

Le Specs for sunglasses! London weather - false spring, and always have an umbrella on you
