I’d love websites that offer widths in shoes, if you run across any! Thank you for your newsletter.

Amanu offers different widths on their sandals and will fix for you if it's not right!

I’m also in search for sandals but my feet are long and slim although wide so if anyone has suggestions, please share! 🙏🏼 I’ve been eyeing the flat sandal from Margaux but haven’t pulled the trigger for fear they’re not wide enough. Thank you, Hillary, for this newsletter!

I find Margaux to run on the narrow side but you can order wider ones!

I didn’t realize I could choose different widths! Thank you, Hillary.

What a perfect round up! Will be saving all of this valuable info! Loving the look and price point of the A. Emery. Also, glad your LOF love is still going strong. Listened to the podcast and loved it. I just got the double scoop one piece in the new aqua colour and I am normally a Sunday suit girl but loooooving this style too. So comfortable. Also Hi Hi bottoms and Sunday top in the fabulous LA LA land pink. Fun!

5 years ago I bought the Sarah Flint Grear sandal, and even though the style isn’t super ‘in’ right now I think a wrap sandal always looks good with a maxi. But the crazy thing is how well they have held up for 5 years of wear! The leather has that lovely worn look. Also love that you can send the shoes for repair if needed (which I have done with a heel from SF). I generally don’t have the budget for shoes that are $$$ so I’d f you are in doubt I can’t recommend enough.

I’ve been obsessed with the amanu sandals but I just can’t commit for fear of the gold on the toe being uncomfortable. Can anyone report on the comfort and walkability of these sandals? I’ve also had my eye on Ancient Greek sandals as I’ve heard they are really comfy too. As a committed Birks big buckle Arizona it’s a step outside my paradigm for these more minimalist sandals but I want to try them (but without the disappointing foot pain & blisters!)

Ancient Greek are always comfy! I love that brand so much too. The A Emery ones have a footbed that's similarly supportive to Birks, fwiw and the most arch support.

I have way too many pairs of Amanu sandals and they are amazing and gorgeous. Even the footbed seems elevated - If that can be a thing? 100% worth it!

Oooh I've been eyeing those! So stunning. You won't be disappointed!

i don’t have the amanu style you are talking about but i did make a custom pair there when they had their studio in west hollywood and i have to say, they are among the most beautiful, elevated pair of flat sandals from an aesthetic perspective. that said, their styles are delicate so the cost per wear will likely end up being pretty rich because they aren’t going to be a workhorse in your wardrobe.

This is so helpful! Thank you for the feedback. Sounds like I need to go AG for walking 10 miles on my European vacations and the Amanu for a stunner “from car to restaurant” only vibe.

IMHO the AG are great but not 10-mile walk shoes due to a lack of footbed support.

Expand full comment

yes, exactly. i have found AG to be more comfortable and better value but if the “10 miles in europe” is a real situation, may i also suggest gentle souls? i have at this pair in what they are calling dark brown for over a decade, they go with everything and tow the line between style (if you like them), comfort and longevity SO WELL.

Love love love the LOF founders’ stories AND that they have longer torso length one pieces. Their suit makes this post partum body feel really good 😂❤️ loved the interview Hilary Kerr, one day we need Gorjana Reidel on there…American dream personified! You two would hit it off. Xx

Thank you! Love this. Has anyone tried the Miu Miu rope sport sandals and am I crazy for thinking they will go with everything? Also love the Jamie Hallers. Is there anyplace in LA that makes sandals anymore? Similar to the previous Amanu (which I sadly missed!)

have you tried the brand Aloha's? This brand's sandals have been haunting me! https://alohas.com/en-us/collections/sustainable-sandals

Loved your LoF podcast on Second Life and I bought my Peak Suit from the brand LY. It is also my YCOHO and honestly, it is the only swimsuit I wear. Can't decide if this summer I buy a second one in another color or try a different style in my beloved black. I love it so much.
