The Lemaire large Croissant bag that I purchased last fall is the perfect crescent shape for everything. It’s not leather so it’s lightweight. The strap is long enough to wear as crossbody. It’s large enough to add a light sweater. It’s got a semi-secret zippered front stash pocket for a phone. And like any well-considered bag that’s meant to be used, the lining is light colored so I can actually see my wallet, sunglasses, etc. without digging endlessly. Three weeks in Paris= just one bag.

Oh this is such good intel! I always wish there were pictures of the bags with a person on Lemaire's website though; I have a hard time visualizing the actual size, you know? But this info helps. Thank you!

First up, appreciate your rename. Second, "boho" typically is not me, and always like "oh I am sitting this one out." New Phoebe, Old Celine Phoebe yes, Chloe Phoebe no! BUT as I look at that Coach example, I am reminded of a bag on own, the Hermes Masai, larger size. It was not cheap but also under four digits, and I used some tricks and some waiting to get a great deal. It has this look. And I actually love it with edgier things that feel like me -- my big men's cut off shorts with stripes down the sides, tees I got on ssense that look like they have attached suspenders, etc. This bag holds a lot and gives some desperately needed "not trying" to this try-hard girl. Thanks for the beautiful examples and reminder to take this old love out on the town!

OH my god yes the Masai is exactly exactly exactly it and totally works. And I feel you so much on the nonchalance element; I run rather "chalant," if you will. Ha. I didn't include this in the story, but part of what started inspiring it is rediscovering my old Tom Ford-era YSL Mombasa. Old loves are the best!

YESSSSS, Mombasa. And OMG am so chalant. A constant effort to un-chalant. XO.

I’m more of a structured bag type of person but now I can’t unsee the Ralph Lauren bag. My day to day bag is a structured one also from RL so I’m already biased. I love the boho theme and style, think it’s such a fun style but I never think I look good in it.

The PRL bag feels like the best of many worlds, especially in suede. And I hear you on the boho vibes not being the ones I naturally turn to, as I prefer tailored pieces, generally speaking. But that's one of the things I loved about the Chloe collections is it's so much more modern than the '70s boho I tend to think of? And I think a lot of that lift is coming from the really amazing outerwear.

Expand full comment

Maybe that’s it… I have boho pieces I mix in and enjoy so I don’t feel completely left out. I think the PRL bag is going on my birthday wishlist, which is right around when it’ll finally be cooler in Atlanta to start thinking about fall weather 😉

Oh my gosh, I was HOOKED on Chloe's wooden heels and wedges, and remember how Topshop insisted on releasing numerous similar styles, throwing me into a total frenzy month after month. One of my girlfriends bought a tan leather pair, and she happened to be a little size 4 (37) like me, so when I got to borrowing them, I borrowed them for weeks...

I currently love these buckled pumps https://www.chloe.com/us/pumps_cod17843400po.html

and these cognac mules https://www.chloe.com/us/mules_cod17843393qr.html

The buckles are so good and new yet familiar in really pleasing ways! Also I love that low heel. Swoon.

OMG the Susannah studded ankle boots are back! I remember everyone and they’re dog copying those - I always wanted a pair 😅

I really want to love the hobo bags but I’m a structured girl through and through…! I dont know what it is but I hate when they “crease”, I know they’re designed to but I think it’s my OCD 😂

Right when I got to the part of your rename from boho to hobo, I wondered if you would include the Coach Brooklyn Bag! I saw a few influencers unbox this week and the leather looks like butter (the best). I don't need a new bag, but the rich chocolate shade sure is tempting!

It's really really really good, and agreed the chocolate is gorgeous. And it can fit a laptop! Which is wild.

Someone (perhaps you?) beat me to the balenciaga on the TRR but now I’ve got an alert set for future appearances. I’d also love a piece on your bag within a bag, if you subscribe to that philosophy. If you are changing bags how to you organize / compartmentalize the important stuff that needs to get from bag to bag efficiently? One pouch? Multiple pouches? What size pouch?

Not me, is it already gone??? Wow that was fast! But it's a good shape and price, so that makes sense. Normally I carry smaller, more structured bags, and weirdly don't have many essentials (my wallet, sunglasses, keys, and a random lip product are usually the only things I really carry with any consistency), so don't have bag-in-bag stuff, but I very much do with my work bag. For that I have a several of the small and nano zipper pouches for cords, makeup, pens and receipts, etc.

Thank you! I have been using stashed bags but I think the nano zipper pouches are worth looking into. I hope the boho bag and its new owner live happily ever after and I’ll just sit tight until a new one comes on the site 🥰

I am in the same boat as you. It is too hot to even look at my fall clothes, let alone shop for new ones! But bags are a great place to start. I love this silhoutte almost as much as I love the rename. I bought the Khaite Augustina bag this past spring and have a feeling I will be reaching for it a lot this fall. I like the idea of using a boho bag to add a more casual vibe to more structured pieces.

Stay cool :) xx

Oh I love that Khaite bag. I think the brand makes really excellent accessories. I have so many Khaite shoes from the past several years that I reach for over and over again. And the Augustina is just so great and honestly I think pretty timeless?

Boho forever can’t quit it no matter how hard I try. I have a great Chloe bag from years back that will definitely work. Femme with an edge is my brief.

I like the Ralph Lauren bag but wish it was 30% smaller. This post may just be the push I need to buy the Savette Tondo bag I've been drooling over since last fall!

Smaller size = Polo ID Suede Small Shoulder Bag. There's a black suede on the brand's site, and a chocolate brown one on Saks. Plus the strap can be made longer. Just saying.

I bought two pairs of the shoes from that Chloe 2006 collection and still wear them to this day. I love them so much!! My dog nibbled a bit on the wood of one pair so I still keep an eye out to replace those. I almost lost a dog that day.

Chemena slayed with this collection. And then to have Kamala Harris wearing one of her blouses for the VP announcement: Elite!

do you have any thoughts on the mansur gavriel cabas tote? it’s slouchy but still a little structured.

Expand full comment

I want a slouchy suede bag for fall to fit my laptop and I love these options. I don’t dress bobo but I still feel like they are a strong fit for me. Maybe I’m thinking of describing them as “casual - polished” vs boho
