Another great newsletter! TY. For the record, I missed your newsletter last week. How can I find a grownup version of Wilder’s sandals?! They are adorable.
I love your remark around not being ‘perceived’ on vacation- I’m the same way! I always feel weird that I just don’t care enough about how I look or what I pack when I’m away. I care a lot about how I look and how I’m perceived in my day to day life in NYC and at my job; vacation is a needed break from that mindset!
Oh I am so excited for this topic as we discovered something last week on our Easter visit to Arizona. I made up “party pouch” for the pool and packed it with the following: a small JBL clip speaker, Dutch blitz, 4 sets of 5 dice. From this we could play the card game and a million different dice games (Yahtzee, liars dice, farkle) and it was so much fun. We had four adults and played dice and cards on the beach towels, at the pool bar, at tables outside and was an absolute delight. You can keep score one several different apps for Yahtzee and farkle but a notepad is also worth throwing in the pouch. I’ll be adding two decks of true playing cards for our next trip but everyone loved it and it made for an engaging way for people to spend time together by the pool in community way.
The rules are all easy and you can find them on the internet! I could barely remember how to play Yahtzee but with the help wiki how we all learned quickly
Love this and am so excited that Left on Friday is getting its due! Irene Kim from In Moda Veritas just wrote about their suits too. I moved to Central America during the pandemic with my family and it's so hot that I live in LOF tops, bottoms, one-pieces, everything they make is so versatile. I wear their one-pieces as body suits and tops to workout too! Best bathing suits on the market for active moms, IMO.
Struggling with shoes for a 10 day London and Amsterdam trip in June. I have high arches and finicky feet and am trying to find something I can walk comfortably in on nights I dress up slightly - maxi or midi dress, skirt, silk pants. During the day I’ll do sneakers or Tevas. Most flats have zero arch support, so while fashionable and cute, I can’t walk any distance in them. Will take my Arizona birks for plane and short outings. My other must for significant walking, is a back strap on any shoe. No backless. I’m at a loss. Considering my Marni criss cross sandals but they are slightly clunky. Clueless. Thanks!
So I have an older pair of suede sandals with and soft ankle strap and a low block heel that sound like what you might need? They're Gianvito Rossi, let me see if they still make them.
I love my Veja sneakers for this. I walk approx 3/4 mi from the parking lot to my office and these are 95% perfect. My absolute favorite, 100%, zero issues ever solution are my Converse Chuck Taylors in black. The Veja are fancier. The Chucks a bit more comfortable.
I am choosing 2 of these 3 options - White Adidas Stan Smith, Gray Adidas OG and Soloman hiking shoe. We are going hiking on the coast a couple of days, and the Salomon can be used then or in town. Now I just have to decide!
Just ordered the linen dress from Reformation. BTW the red, cropped cardigan from Aqua that I also bought (you are costly) is great. Even my husband said it was a cute cardigan and we have been together forever. Glad you got away with your cute littles!
Speaking of summer clothing, would love your recommendations for long white summer plants, preferably a little flowy. Everything I try is just absolutely completely see through. Please help.
Okay so I know this will come as no surprise but J.Crew has a linen flowy pant that has a drawstring that I own in cream with black polka dots and they're not white, but super light, and NOT see through!
We went to Kona Village for a few years while my son was in preschool/ elementary (he’s 23 now). It was my absolutely favorite vacation. I haven’t been there since it’s been redone, I hope they kept the old school vibes while still staying luxe. Great places for kids, too!
I’m so thrilled you got a lovely vacation. I do worry you don’t take time off. Which is a strange worry for me to have about someone I don’t know IRL 😆 building memories like this is so special ❤️
I was just in Hawaii too! (But it’s where I grew up so our trips there are a lot less glam lol.) I agree on the note re: Hawaiian at LAX. And it’s a shame, because they are the best airline option imo
This was the most glam version of Hawaii I have ever experienced. Normally it means picking up snacks from Fort Derussy and staying wherever had the best rate for commercial airline pilots. And I love that version just as much! As long as there are lilikoi and spam musubi I'm thrilled. I assume Hawaiian is at Bradley due to all the work going on at LAX and hope it will be in a normal terminal situation soon! Because yeah, they're so wonderful.
I was just talking about packing for trips with a friend, how do people afford all brand new clothes for a trip? How do they know that they will be comfortable without wearing them in similar situations before they go? We need to normalize wearing our regular clothes on vacation. Tried and true pieces that you feel good in so you can enjoy the unfamiliar surroundings without fidgeting. Obviously you could include a few well chosen purchases to fill needs that you don’t have in your closet.
Normalize your normal clothes for *everything* IMHO! We had a big work event recently and someone asked if I was going to wear something new. I was like, under pressure? Hell no. Wearing something that's tried and tested, thank you very much!!
I recently learned quite a few of my girlfriends use Nuuly for trips and it blew my mind. They all swear by it and plan accordingly around trips or special occasions. I’m not quite skilled at Nuuly (I guess I like what I like and am picky 😅) but did think it was a genius idea and cost effective way of getting new clothes.

Girl, I wish I had an answer! I've found some aesthetic options, but none are as soft as hers!

Yes!!!!!!

Oh that's so fun! I have no idea what any of these games are, but I'm totally into this idea and intrigued! Thank you for sharing!!!

And they're chic as hell!
More and more the best vacation seems to be about disconnecting. Interesting to see how that applies to clothes you pack too.
Yes indeed!

Mine look kinda like this: https://www.therealreal.com/products/women/shoes/sandals/gianvito-rossi-suede-gladiator-sandals-k7nov
Thank you!!

Seconded this!
@vickie - do you have any sneaker recommendations for the day, please? I also have high arches and wide feet and am struggling!

My black chucks are my go-to as well!
Ooh I tried the campo and Esplar but just didn’t find them that comfortable?
Mine are the Campo.
Ah! I think I’m very fussy 😂

ahhhh I was wearing that cardi today! I'm glad you got it and like it too!!!

I really appreciate it! And it is definitely something I'm trying to be better about doing. Because I honestly feel like a new woman.
So glad you went on vacation! Looked like a wonderful trip. And you were missed last week but had a hunch you were away because of your IG 😉

I’m right now in Hawaii! Wish I’d seen your post before I left!
Love your Substack so much but it seems like every post costs me money! Keep it up!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for all this! What size in the bathing suit bottoms are you? (I'm a 28 waist usually) - are they at all pinchy/muffin inducing at the top?
I'm a M in both top and bottom and NO MUFFIN TOP or pinching. Hence why I love!!
Amazing! Thank you!

The Tobacco Oiled Leather Arizona is my go everywhere shade/sandal. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t indulge in The Great Olive Green pair!
🙌🙌🙌🙌 they're so so so good.
The Arizona Oiled are my constants in the summer.
