Late July really puts me in my feels. The excitement of early summer has faded, but the melancholy of late August hasn’t hit, and the result always feels a bit like present-tense nostalgia for me. Like those moments after dinner when my kids ask for a dance party in the living room, and I look at my family bouncing around and realize that I’m making a deathbed-montage memory at that very second? I know I’m not the only one who does this—you’ll see “core memory” all over the comments section of any happy TikTok—but it’s been happening a
Thank you for this! And yes, for me, the two books are definitely different shades of the same color. I found Rachel less brutal, and much much more queer, if that helps at all?
Dissh is new to me and I love that dress so much but afraid to order without trying on. I did however order the linen vest that was suggested. Great linen pieces. Thanks!
I have gone from being adamant about NOT seeing Barbie to wanting to see it...first from your comments about it, which prompted me to read some very thoughtful reviews. Total turnaround for me! And...looking forward to reading The Rachel Incident..I downloaded it last month.
I won’t lie - while I don’t NEED a suitcase, I really want this Tumi. I might have to splurge on it as a belated birthday gift to myself!
A few things I’m loving right now:
- Anna, the Biography - Amy Odell’s reporting and writing is nuanced, honest, and I can’t put down this book. One of the best I’ve read in a while.
- Saint Jane mineral sunscreen - feels like chemical one (absorbs smoothly and hydrating), offers great protection and primes the skin for makeup, and I’ve never been more diligent about sunscreen application since using it.
- Pan Am - an old show, but one with the most incredible costumes and nostalgia and it was Margot Robbie’s first American project. It’s a quick binge!
I concur about the Barbie movie - saw it yesterday with trepidation as had heard varying reviews, but I came away buoyed! I really liked it and would even see it again!!
Always feel so happy when I see your newsletter drop in my inbox! Love that your content is thoughtfully curated.
Question: I always rush to buy or borrow your book recommendations, but if I did not enjoy Normal People, is The Rachel Incident a skip for me?
