As a small business owner, with kids at home which is why I started my journey solo, I think I'm most interested in the emotional aspect of selling something you put blood, sweat and tears into. Ending something. I know Bobbie Brown for example, sold her company, then started new. Jones Road! Personally, I wonder all the time if I should go back to corporate, because I could make more money for my family if I had more consistent income, but the part of me that loves being my own boss and the flexibility to be home with my four kiddos is so terrified of going back to the corporate world. Are you a decisive person? (I'm not) How did you know it was the right decision? Have you had any regrets or surprises since selling? Any unexpected blessings? Also, what does selling a company entail? Did you enjoy the process or was it a massive learning curve, like buying a first house? Thanks!
Me too! Especially since I’ve followed who what wear from the beginning. I’m interested both in the business aspect (as a business owner myself) but also from your own perspective of how does it feel to not “work for yourself” anymore etc.
Would love to learn more about selling your company, how you made the decision and what it means for you going forward. Celebrate your success and achievements and how you’re leaning in to your next season of professional life!
One of the things I have struggled with the most over my career is celebrating the wins. This was particularly true the day the deal closed. No one knew except my husband, and he was out of town for work, so it happened and I was alone in my bedroom and had no one to discuss it with, which was wild!
We want to hear about the career learnings of 2024!!😂 Specially (if you’re willing to share): what motivated the sale, and what’s turned out better/worse/different than you predicted?
Crazy that it's been almost 2.5 years since we sold, I think? And as for motivation: When you take VC money, you know an exit is the goal, so it was always part of the plan.
Would love to hear about you selling your company. I’m particularly interested in how you valued it ($$), whether or not you negotiated how you would remain involved, and what that looks like now - after doing it! Bonus points for how you felt about relinquishing control over your business baby and what made you make the decision to sell.
As always, love you and your content! (You first, content second… as it should be) Thank you for sharing!
I too would love to hear more about the sale of your company and moving into a corporate environment. I did something similar years ago and have never looked back, which many people presume the opposite would be the ‘dream.’ ❤️❤️
YES TO THIS. I've struggled a bit tbh because I kept getting the "so what are you doing next/founding next" question, and feeling (perceived) folks being disappointed when I said I was staying and taking on a larger role. Like I'm betraying my entrepreneurial side? But the truth is, I love being in media, I have been in media my whole career, and I'm still in love with it? So getting to do it on a even bigger level and even bigger stage is actually quite exciting. But got a lot of "oh" responses whenever I've said that.
That is amazing! To be able to share your gifts and energy, without having the additional stressors that can come along with entrepreneurial endeavors, is absolutely wonderful.
I will read anything you write! And while I haven’t asked questions about selling your company (no longer with your original partner?) and now working for a larger company I’m so curious. Especially how you’ve juggled all those stages in different personal life stages too. Cheers to more joy in 2025!
Ahhh so *that’s* the chapter I’ve missed! It felt like there was a seismic shift, thanks for sharing this. Looking at the other comments it’s clear that I’m not the only one who would love to hear more! Feels like it may require its own substack or even a book deal? 😉 Thanks for another great post today!
I echo the company sale debrief — from a practical and emotional (and dare I say spiritual) standpoint, because it’s all so interwoven isn’t it?
Also! I love that you have Sarah Creal products in your Dopp kit — what a fabulous founder truly designing beauty products for women over 40 and showcasing us in the campaign. We feel seen. I had the privilege of interviewing her for a piece and want to spread the word about these stellar products and brand ethos: https://www.thequalityedit.com/articles/sarah-creal-beauty-review
I would love to hear about you selling your company and going to work for a big corporation!
Thank you for this! What part about it is most interesting? I'm asking because I am too close to it and don't have perspective at this point. Ha.

Same!
Adding to the chorus: would love to hear about selling your company! I used to watch your videos back in the day!
Oh my god, the ones we did in the "closet" back back in the day?
Yes! Funnily, I didn’t follow you/the company for many years after that but found you again here. I guess I like the small-scale content.
you and me both, clearly!

Thanks for this SS! And yes, it has been a juggle to put it mildly.

I sure do! Not sure how I missed her products until recently, but I just started trying and I'm really into everything I've tried so far.
Would love to hear more about selling your company.
Yes to hearing more about selling the company! And I’d love to hear more about your new role/responsibilities.
Please write about your career transition! It looks like a lot of us would love to read whatever you feel comfortable and ready to share. :)
