Just wanted to reiterate how much I enjoy your newsletters! I have no idea when (or if) your sending schedule is, so it’s always a nice surprise to see it waiting for me in my inbox. It’s like hearing from your kind friend who always has the most thoughtful recommendations. Implicitly trust everything you suggest!
I'm always a bit so-so on astrology stuff: love to read 'em, but optimistically skeptical. But every once in a while, I feel surveilled by the stars. This happened today as I was reading and I realized that I graduated HS in the 2006/07 eclipse cycle, and then got pregnant/had my first baby in the 2015/16 cycle. Majorly transformative, indeed.
I am loving the show!! And couldn’t agree more that we need more grown up rom-coms like this. Also! Huge fan of Lauren Sherman, and already pre-ordered the book. Cannot wait to read.
I love your newsletter, Hillary, and esp love that little note at the end that sweetly thanks everyone for being here and politely asks for likes and comments. Every time, I think you're talking directly to me :) Separately I tried on and fell in love with the Doen Graciella dress today, and am trying to decide if it's an investment worth the cost per wear! (Prob yes!)
Well thank YOU for reading all the way through! I feel like some folks will never notice and that some folks will see it and understand *why* I write that, and it's all fine either way, but I gotta say what I gotta say. I know you probably know this, but I have fewer shopping regrets when I can think of multiple ways to wear a piece (styling for work/weekend/after work) + with three things I already own in my closet.
You often talk about how you’ve had many pieces in your wardrobe for years (and years!) and I wonder if you have some kind of criteria when making these purchases? Like are these just a bunch of lucky guess investments you make (I somehow doubt this!) that you end up wearing to the ground? Or is there some kind of check list that you consider? Sometimes I can’t tell if something is going to be a long term favorite until I actually have it in my closet and see how often I gravitate towards it which makes me hesitate to invest. Would be so curious about your take! Thank you for delivering the most highly curated and thoughtful newsletter. I always look forward to reading!!
I love this question and I think about it all the time. Some of it is luck! Some of it is experience from working in fashion for a long time and seeing how trends come back around. Some of it is strategy, but that's come more into play as time goes on. I've had a long standing rule that before buying something I need to be able to think of three outfits (that I already own) that it will work with, and ideally three different occasions I could wear it, which in theory saves me from having a specialized wardrobe. I'm also lucky enough that I don't need to have a "work wardrobe" that is totally different from my off-duty wardrobe, as some people (like lawyers or whomever has to wear conservative suits to work every day) do. Also: I try to buy things that are made out of really good materials and that are actually comfortable, especially with shoes.
It's totally diabolical, but also...pragmatic. Whenever things are messy, that's when it's also a time for something good (or evil, I guess) to rise to the top.
Totally, I really do love it. It’s a great reminder to embrace the wild & complicated times instead of just wishing for more calm (since that is usually where I’m living, especially as a mom!)
I want to take a day of PTO and binge that show haha! I adore every player involved (and I’m super impartial as I don’t have a connection to any of them haha!).
I love that Doen dress- just got it and totally obsessed with fit. It’s so flattering! But- the fabric is so thin- I’m wondering with tights and boots, will I still be able to make it work (in New England?). Perhaps my boots need to go over the knee! Does Doen make a similar silhouette I heavier fabrics during their winter drops? Hmmmmm…..
It's harder to find an over-the-knee or high boot at a sub $300 price point that's made out of natural materials. That said, Saks has a Staud over-the-knee boot that has a higher heel on sale for $395 and they have some Schutz styles that are on sale and leather or suede right now too.

Awww this is so nice to hear! I try to send every Sunday, but life gets in the way from time to time!
Hillary, are you on Goodreads? Would love to see more of your book ratings! I’ve read a lot of your recs so far!
I'm not! I'm lazy and should do it!

RIGHT?!?!?

More grown up shows that have dreamy kissing!!!
Love the Foster ladies and can’t wait to watch 🤩
It's so good;, I can't wait for you to see it.
Would so love to try the gummies! I'm going crazy with not sleeping. Not surprisingly, they won't ship outside of the US.
Ugh I'm so sorry!!!

Follow up: I bought it!
Agree that show is SO GOOD. Also, I enjoy your writing so much probably because I hear your podcast voice in my head while I read it!
HA! Friends have always said I write the way I speak, but I never thought about this benefit of having a podcast!

Maybe this is a future newsletter?
Chaos is a ladder! How have I never heard that? Embracing as my new mantra 😂
ha it's from Game of Thrones
Omg of course 🤦♀️ it doesn’t seem quite so diabolical out of context 😂

That sounds delicious and correct.

I haven't found Doen to do dresses in wool etc yet, but will ask them!
Me & em, the fold London, and LK Bennet all have thicker fabric in upscale day dresses. The London brands really nail 'pretty but warm' clothing imho
Thank you!!
Am I remembering correctly that you own one of the savette bags? I'm contemplating one for a bday gift to myself and would love your thoughts
I think they're beautiful but I don't own one yet!
and more high boots recommendation, under $300?

Whether you are talking about fashion, fitness, books, movies, tv shows, beauty. really anything, i'm all in and here for your recs. thanks!!
What an absolute delight of a newsletter!
