What Should I Buy for Fall? (and Other Assorted Shopping Questions)
From colorful coats to chic sneakers to the perfect look for a fall wedding, you’ve got a LOT of shopping queries, and I have some answers! LFG.

Greetings and salutations, friends. For this week’s installment of the newsletter, I put the questions to you: What are you shopping for right now, and how can I help? Delightfully, I received loads and loads of feedback, and unsurprisingly, many of you are searching for the same general things: coats, boots, and wedding guest outfits. So let's get into it!
I’m looking for: Affordable tall tan/cognac almond-shaped boots!
The first brand that came to mind is Larroudé. The founder, Marina, is an incredible Brazilian woman who was the VP fashion director at Barneys and an editor at prestigious publications such as Vogue Brasil, Teen Vogue, and Style.com prior to that. She’s a true dynamo, and her brand, Larroudé, is excellent.
If you’re looking for a boot with these qualities and a hint of Western style, try the Louise Knee-High Western Boot or the shorter Thema Boot. The brand’s Kate Pointed Toe Knee High Boot offers a classic leather option, if that’s more your style.
I have also always loved Staud’s Wally Suede Knee Boot, which comes in a wide range of colors, including tan. Unsurprisingly, J.Crew has a really timeless iteration as well; the Sadie Knee High Boot is classic and a good investment at that price point.
I’m looking for: Sneakers! I want a pair that’s dressier than Allbirds but still super comfy, but not crazy expensive.
Well, the fashion people—who formerly were team Stan Smith all day, every day—are all about the Adidas Samba right now. The Who What Wear team wrote about them over the summer, and according to the street style photos we saw in New York, they’re still going strong this season too.
They’re technically men’s shoes, so check out the size guide to convert your foot size accordingly. I personally like the classic black iteration, which is only $75. In my dream world, I’d go for the Adidas x Wales Bonner collab, but the cream-and-green ones are running north of $500 these days.
I’m looking for: Coats in fun colors.
I interviewed Hill House’s founder, Nell Diamond, the other day, and she told me that her company is launching Reversible Puffer Jackets soon, which I love. They’re $375, and the two styles I’ve seen are solid on one side and a print on the other, which is cool.
I think Zara’s Wool Blend Oversized Coat in sky blue is a nice, non-black option, while Loulou Studio makes an upgraded iteration in a wool-cashmere blend. As you might know, I’m a big fan of all things A.L.C. and think the brand’s Lincoln Coat in lilac is stunning and will last forever.
If you love Valentino and Barbiecore as much as I do but don’t have super-deep pockets, try Topshop’s Double Breasted Tie Waist Trench Coat to get your pink fix.
I’m looking for: A blazer!
There are a handful of brands I turn to time and again for blazers, and they never disappoint. They are more of investment pieces, but I have legit worn my go-tos for many, many years and also got a number of them on sale.
I can’t seem to write a newsletter without referencing Anine Bing, so here we go again. The classic Kaia Double Breasted Checked Tweed Blazer is an excellent choice. The camel is a flattering neutral, and the double-breasted style is supremely cozy. There are more sizes on Anine Bing’s website, and I prefer the styling there. I’d wear with slouchy trousers, as pictured, for work, and then with classic worn-in blue straight-leg jeans on the weekend.
Veronica Beard is another brand I turn to, as the design duo behind the brand have a choke hold on the polished double-breasted blazer. The Beacon Dickey Blazer in gray will straight up last you a lifetime, as will the Miller Dickey Jacket, which also comes in a really lovely bordeaux color.
My current delight is my new J.Crew Leighton Blazer-Jacket, which I own in Dusty Ivory but also comes in a sweet pink hue, the latter of which is currently on sale. And speaking of pink, I also have been pleasantly surprised by Banana Republic’s new Rivoli Corduroy Blazer, which comes in a blush and a camel. You can buy it with the matching trousers and style it as a suit, or wear it on its own; I like that the silhouette is a little menswear inspired, and the longer body feels fresh for fall.
I’m looking for: Fall wedding guest outfits.
I am too! Later this year, I’m going to officiate a wedding ceremony for two of my friends and have been very much on the hunt for my look. While I haven’t found my perfect dress yet, I did see a handful of others that are potentially great.
Okay: If you are comfortable going without a bra, I love the low-back Rimini Velvet Dress from Reformation in forest green. Keeping in that green theme, I recently tried on Self-Portrait’s One Shoulder Ruched Sequined Stretch-Tulle Midi Dress, which is excellent and can take you all the way through the holidays thanks to the versatile cut and festive sequins. If you want The Row vibes at less than half the price, I would look at Raey’s Bandeau Neck Silk Satin Maxi Dress. It’s dead simple, but that means it’s also very hard to place, so you could wear it over and over again.
I’m going to keep updating this category, though, as a lot of the fall/winter party dresses haven’t hit stores yet, so watch this space for more options!
As always, thank you for being here, and thank you for sticking around. If you have any questions or concerns, or want me to touch on any topics in particular, I’m all ears. Leave a comment on Hi Everyone’s Bulletin or DM me on Instagram—I’m @hillarykerr—my inbox is always open!
