I spent 10 hours searching the sale (so you don’t have to).

’Tis the season for Labor Day sales, and while there are lots of interesting options out there, no one has the depth of stock or range of pieces like Nordstrom right now. Its summer sale is a monster—like 30,000+ pieces across a wide range of categories—but finding the worth-it pieces can be a bit like digging for a needle in a haystack. But that’s what I’m here for. I spent the better part of 10 hours digging through all the options on sale right now and found a generous handful that I think are worth your dollars. I kept an eye on the upcoming fall trends and only curated pieces that will work now, then, and well into the future.
Veronica Beard Lavaca Knee High Boot ($390, 40% off)
If you are in need of a classic slim, suede boot with a perfect 2.5-inch heel to wear with all of your maxi dresses and slip skirts, this is a really excellent one to consider. I can personally attest to the high quality of every piece I’ve ever purchased from the brand, and these boots are the kind of piece you invest in once and wear for two decades because they’re wildly timeless.
A.L.C. Sedgwick II Plaid Double Breasted Blazer ($390, 40% off)
You all ask me about which brands make blazers that are worth it, and I’m here to plant my flag in the ground for A.L.C., loudly and proudly. Made by the brilliant stylist turned designer Andrea Lieberman (she’s responsible for J.Lo in the Versace dress and Gwen Stefani’s Love Angel Music Baby looks), and everything she makes is excellent quality. I personally would style this blazer with my go-tos: a vintage concert T-shirt tucked into some high-waisted straight-leg jeans, preferably in a very lived-in medium blue wash, but if you want to go full power suit, I will not stop you.
Hunter Original Refined Rain Boot ($110, 40% off)
I will keep foisting my sales strategy upon you until you agree with me: Always buy classic items and brands that you can wear forever, which is why whenever Hunter boots show up at a sale, I am inclined to make everyone buy them. They’re the chicest rain/snow boots out there, and they last forever and ever. I adore this olive green, personally, as it’s still super neutral to go with your fall looks but a touch more interesting than black.
Girlfriend Collective Paloma Sports Bra ($16.80, 60% off)
Like buying patio furniture, purchasing workout clothes at full price always annoys me. So when I see cult-favorite brands like Girlfriend Collective at 60% off, my eyes get very big. This longline bra is wonderful for low-impact workouts and a great addition to any closet. And yes, the matching leggings are on sale, too.
Frame Le Signature Mini Leather Crossbody Bag ($298.80, 40% off)
When I tell you I gasped when I saw this adorable, sleek, very European bag, I am not joking. I’ve got the chartreuse one in my cart right now because it’s such an unexpected color and would look amazing with all my favorite colors: denim, gray, camel, black, white, navy, and red. The camel iteration is a no-brainer—super chic and timeless. I even like the taupe, which is one of those goes-with-nothing-goes-with-everything colors. Pick one right now. You won’t regret it.
Good American Rib Midi Skirt ($93, 40% off)
If you’re looking for a supremely versatile skirt that works for most personal styles and body types, this stretchy midi skirt is for you. I wore styles like this all throughout both pregnancies and wear them to this day. You can style it with a blazer for work, with flats and a slouchy T-shirt on the weekend, or with an equally body-con top and heeled sandals for night. Style it for the beach, style it for a bachelorette party… It will be one of the hardest-working pieces in your wardrobe
Madewell The Perfect Vintage Straight Leg Jean ($78.80, 40% off)
IT IS A SEPTEMBER MIRACLE. An actual perfect jean that’s fully in stock and fully on sale. I don’t have a lot to say about this one other than buy it. It’s the perfect chill jean, with a pleasing, versatile silhouette and wash, in a great color, now 40% off. And it has a tiny bit of stretch in it. What’s stopping you? Nada, my friend. Nada.
Mansur Gavriel x Marimekko Large Mansikkavuoret Print Canvas Tote ($276.50, 30% off)
Okay, this is an emotional purchase, but the heart wants what the heart wants. I have a number of Mansur pieces and can attest to the fact that they last for ages and are excellent quality. (The brand’s Large Leather Tote has been on rotation for years as a work bag turned diaper bag and back again.) This collab with Marimekko is beyond charming and a distinct upgrade from your boat tote (ironic or otherwise).
Mother The Tripper High Waist Ankle Flare Jeans ($130.80, 40% off)
If you have been given the gift of hips, like I have, then you need these jeans. Most straight-leg jeans look like skinnies on me, but a style with a kicked-out hem like these ankle-flare jeans actually ends up reading pretty straight on a non-model body. I like that they’re high-waisted and clean so that you can wear them for a variety of occasions.
Miu Miu 55MM Butterfly Core Collection Sunglasses ($180.60, 40% off)
Full-price designer sunglasses? Miss me with that markup. However, a classic style in a classic shape and color, from a holds-its-value brand like Miu Miu? Add to cart. Like, now. There’s a more square iteration available on sale, too.
Proenza Schouler White Label Colorblock Cutout Bodysuit ($118, 60% off)
As you might know, I’m really into bodysuits (both now and historically), and while I tend to pick neutral options, I think this soft peach-and-tomato-red style is so cool, especially the back cutout. Wear it with black leather or beat-up jeans; this is an unfussy statement piece worth having.
Staud Leather Moon Bag ($206.50, 30% off)
The entire Who What Wear editorial team has been into Staud since it launched, and with hit bags like the Moon, it’s no wonder. The grapefruit color is a tiny nod to the season’s pink trend without committing in a shouty way, and it would work just as well with classic fall colors, like mulled wine, heathered gray, and mossy green, as it will next spring with your go-to white pieces.
