There Are 23,000 Pieces on Sale at Net-A-Porter Right Now. These 12 Won't Give You Buyer's Remorse.
(And yes, the newsletter's back! Thanks for bearing with me.)
Greetings and salutations again, my friends. I’m so glad you’re here.
Are you ready to talk about the Black Friday sales? (Which started weeks ago and will carry on through the end of December, yet for some reason we still are referring to them by this antiquated name? You know it!) Because I sure as hell am.
At some point I’m going to round up a veritable cornucopia of the best deals out there, but today let’s just start as we mean to go on, and by that I mean: with Net-A-Porter. It is, as my daughter likes to say, my “favorite favorite” and NAP is having a monster sale right now, with up to 50% off designer essentials and over 23,000 items to sort through. It’s a lot, but in the best way.
So what do I think is worth shopping?
As always, I suggest having a plan. Mine varies, and depends on how much free time I have, my upcoming wardrobe needs, and the holes in my closet (yes, I keep a running list of pieces I wish I had to pull a look together). And I try to stay focused.
For my first round of sale reconnaissance, I start with specific designers I know and love, as I already have insight into how the brand’s clothing or accessories fit or the quality of the item in question. From there I might go more specific, like: I need a festive dress that will work for New Year’s Eve, two fancier holiday parties, and the wedding I’m officiating next month (true story), and sort the sale accordingly. My next round of sale scouting focuses on more long-term investments, like classic blazers or walkable boots or a beloved bag in a bold hue that will refresh my standard staples. And then of course, if I’m in a silly, goofy mood, I will just sort by discount, and see what the algorithm gods want me to see.
But enough about me: let’s do this.
ALIX NYC Swinton Off-The-Shoulder Bodysuit ($117, 40% off)
I have loved Alix bodysuits forever, and you should too. This brick-hued, ruched jersey, off-the-shoulder option is what I’d wear on dates if I still went on them. Jkjkjkjkjkjkjkjkjk. Oh you don’t *do* color? Cool, me neither. Try this white v-neck option instead.
Nili Lotan Arlette Striped T-Shirt ($135, 40% off)
Nili Lotan makes some of the best staples around: high quality, timeless but still from a fashion perspective, and always with an incredible fit. This classic striped t-shirt will be with you for a decade, at least. (She also made some insane cashmere track pants that are on deep sale too, if you’re into that kind of thing.)
La Ligne AAA Lean Lines Striped Cashmere Sweater ($165, 40% off)
This camel-and-white striped cashmere sweater is a wardrobe staple from the beloved brand La Ligne, and I honestly would sprint to put this in my cart right now.
Dries Van Noten Leopard Clutch ($425, 50% off)
In 30 years, I bet that the pieces in my closet that will still look relevant are by Dries Van Noten. He’s timeless and thoughtful, and has a singular vision. And he also makes mean leopard prints, like the one on this clutch. Truthfully it feels bonkers recommending a clutch at this price, but I truly feel that you will have it and wear it for the rest of your life. Or at least the next three decades.
Nanushka Florence One Shoulder Cloque Midi Dress ($447.50, 50% off)
Do you have a holiday party to go to? One that requires something elegant, but understated? If so, might I very much suggest this cream dress? It’s minimal, but interesting, and feels extremely elevated for the price.
Jimmy Choo Bing 100 Embellished Snake Print Leather Mules ($696.50, 30% off)
Are you an adult who also enjoys feeling sexy from time to time? If so, I’d like to introduce you to a wholly grown-up shoe that works with anything from a classic black work trouser to a slouchy pair of weekend jeans to a soignée little black dress. This style has been around for a minute, and I’ve seen it on some of my favorite fashion entrepreneurs, and it always looks extremely chic. This style is both unforgettable and unregrettable (which is, regrettably, not a word, but just go with me), just the way I like my shoes.
Stand Studio Maria Oversized Faux Shearling Coat ($300, 40% off)
I will run my mouth about army green and how flattering and versatile it is from now until the end of time, so (un)shockingly I am deceased over my love for this extremely rich-looking coat. It’s meant to be slouchy and cool, and basically it doesn’t matter what you wear underneath, as you will look so fantastic in it, that’s all anyone will remember.
Toteme Cropped Pleated Crepe Straight-Leg Pants ($308. 30% off)
I’ve yet to meet a fashion editor who wasn’t fanatical about Toteme, but if you still need some convincing, these impeccably cut pants might be the thing that tunes you in. They are just a tiny bit stretchy, high waisted (but don’t highlight your c-section shelf, IYKYK), and hit at a really flattering place on your ankle.
Brandon Maxwell Off-The-Shoulder Cut-Out Ribbed-Knit Maxi Dress ($1197, 40% off)
As the owner of several Brandon Maxwell pieces (including the post-ceremony party dress I wore at my wedding), I can tell you with lived experience that his garments are glorious on every level and will hold up forever. Which is why I’m here to say: If you have any fancy or festive events between now and eternity, this dress is for you. It’s giving Hailey Bieber, it’s giving Carolyn Bessette, it’s giving Lena Horne, it’s giving high glamor, but in a completely understated American way. Buy it.
Mother Denim Tomcat High-Rise Straight-Leg Jeans ($125, 50% off)
Honestly I’m not sure why these incredibly timeless jeans are on sale, but I’m not questioning it any further. This style came as a recommendation from my most tasteful, knowledgeable fashion friend, and even though we have opposite body types, I fully agree they’re ideal. Obvi I like them in black, but there are two variations and a blue option too.
Khaite Valeska Dress ($790, 50% off)
Have you been watching The Crown? Yeah, me too. One of my main takeaways—other than Dominic West is far too attractive to play Charles and Mohamed Al-Fayed deserves his own limited series (side note: did you know that Mohamed’s son, Dodi, and Jamal Khashoggi were cousins?)—is that everyone should own a revenge dress. What constitutes a revenge dress is up for interpretation, but I am certain that this Khaite dress qualifies, as does its full-skirted sister.
Staud Anita Leather-Trimmed Bucket Bag ($262.50, 30% off)
Pretty sure I’ve written about this deliciously ‘70s Staud bag before, and feel zero qualms about doing it again. The color is weirdly wonderful, the shape is great, and I’m just a huge fan of the brand overall. And the drawstring top? Forget about it.
Okay friends, that’s it for now. As always, if you’re so inclined to share this newsletter, I’d think that’s grand. If you want to follow me on @hillarykerr, I’d love it. And if you have anything to say or ask (preferably nothing terribly mean), please drop me a note either via DM or in the comments below.
